Wednesday 6/25/1950: Season ending injury strikes Chicago (N)'s Bozwell CHICAGO (N) - Chicago (N)'s centerfielder Woodrow Bozwell will miss the rest of the season. He injured himself running the bases in the game between Chicago (N) and Philadelphia (N). The injury didn't seem to be serious the moment it happened. But suddenly Bozwell collapsed in pain and had to be carried off the field. After being examined by several specialists the diagnosis is clear: Ruptured Achilles Tendon. Wednesday 6/11/1950: St. Louis (N)'s James Conway ropes five hits ST. LOUIS (N) - James Conway is among the best pure hitters in the game, but his 5 hit performance seemed to surprise even himself. A pitch from John Mock in the 1st inning left his bat for a GRAND SLAM, landing 448 feet from home plate in center field. His 3rd hit, a solo homerun off Al Ochs in the 4th inning, cleared the fence in right field. Number 4 in the 6th inning accounted for a RBI double. Monday 6/9/1950: Victor Starffin fires 1-hitter against Chicago (A) WASHINGTON - Victor Starffin had his best stuff going, and Chicago (A) hitters were chanceless. Washington's right-hander fired a 1-hitter, his 1st shutout of the season. Starffin (9-3) struck out 7 and walked 5, throwing 72 of 131 pitches for strikes. Wednesday 5/14/1950: Johnny Kicking Deer out for 4 weeks NEW YORK (A) - New York (A)'s rightfielder Johnny Kicking Deer hurt himself in the 9th inning while diving for a batted ball. He got up slowly and had to leave the game. Johnny Kicking Deer will miss at least 4 weeks. New York (A) wasted no time and rushed him to an hospital.
